This is the rarest Tourmaline that we've owned thus far. It came from Kenya. Unfortunately I don't have any locality specifics beyond that. Kenyan sunset tourmaline is highly sought after, and it is arguably Kenyas' flagship variety. Most of the material that's been available has been in the form of gem rough. Only a few transparent crystals have surfaced onto the internet in years past. This one is rather large, weighing 13.554 grams / 67.77 carats and measuring 47.47mm x 15.3mm x 9.04mm. This crystal is unique. Please watch the video and study photos to further understand. Without any backlighting, this crystal looks no different from a high end black tourmaline crystal. With backlighting this crystal has depth, color, and gem clarity. Upon close examination I've ascertained the presence of chevron phantoms. These phantoms are subtle apexes layered atop of one another very much like a ladder or stack. The pattern is very reminiscent to a feather. Internally there aren't many inclusions. The inner clarity is gem, and the outer appearance of this crystal is jet black with a mysterious shell of opacity. Starting at the bottom of the crystal the color fades from chrome green, blending into a yellow-orange, and it ascends into a gorgeous sunset orange. The top termination is excellent and attractive. Internally that region has a honey brownish orange hue that I've seen in many beautiful sunsets. From am mineralogical standpoint this is an excellent specimen. From a gemological stance, this is a beautiful crystal for gem-cutting. Metaphysically this is a grail of goodness, a unique combination. This crystal has all of the protective powers of a schorl black tourmaline. It purifies and grounds. It clears the entire chakra system; especially the bottom three chakras. The green base of this piece embodies Heart Chakra aspects of green tourmaline. The orange is most prominent in this crystal. Orange tourmaline is associated with emotional and spiritual energies. These yellow and orange crystals convey the energy of action, and the correct use of personal power in the physical realm.
