This rare etched Beryl is the most bizarre and unique crystal that I currently have in my collection. Everything about it is "out of the norm". A mineralogist and brilliant scientific minded friend had speculated the OH perhaps could add a destabilizing factor to the lattice making the crystal more susceptible to etching. The etching and "bicolor" appearance is reminiscent of Ametrine. This is however 100% actual Beryl; with some small amounts of Albite feldspar included on the bottom, and a little bit of bladed albite also present at other areas. The albite is as white as snow. Because of this, I speculate that the albite grew around the beryl after it underwent the Unique geological conditions in which procured such a profound color. It was found around 2014 in Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Northern Pakistan. This crystal is significant in size. It weighs an impressive 25.4 grams / 127 carats and measures roughly 40.1mm x 26.6mm x 20.94mm. The etching varies from wavy conchoidal to intricate boxed type. The luster varies from sub-vitreous to glassy. The internal clarity is superb, and there are natural inclusions inside. This beryl is Dichroic, meaning that it shows different colors from different angles. Grey blue to dark ink blue mostly thru the c-axis, and yellow to green through ab axis. It behaves like Riesling beryl, with the deep inky blue synonymous with Maxixe beryl. Both varieties are extremely rare. Most of the crystals are cabbed or faceted because of their gem value. Something important to consider is that Maxixe beryl is sunlight sensitive. This crystal here hasn't lost any color; however, I also haven't allowed it to sit in direct sunlight for a prolonged time. It does get regular indirect sunlight and various indoor light exposure. This Beryl is an predominantly and impressive Maxixe blue color.
This is a doubly terminated crystal. Although this is a single crystal, it has a twinned appearance with many crystal faces; on both top and bottom. The bottom is filled with many small crystal faces while the top has some very nice windowed faces. The whole piece is crystallized with faces and etching. It's pretty darn close to being a floater, but with minor albite attached, I refrain from using the term floater. It really is an excellent piece. As a Beryl lover I just had to have it. I've enjoyed it for quite some time now. I purposely have kept it free from being mounted on a base because I'm constantly handling it. Metaphysically this crystal highly Mystical and calming. In a nutshell I feel it has the same metaphysical properties as both Goshenite and Aquamarine.
