This amazing and rare Black Beryl specimen was found at the Muiâne pegmatite (Emdal Mines), Alto Ligonha District, Zambezia Province, Mozambique. Here is the URL to an official publication from Mindat for comparative purposes. https://www.mindat.org/photo-80265.html This piece weighs 33.7 grams / 168.5 carats and measures 45.5mm x 35.81xx 20.2mm. This material can be made into cat's eye chatoyant cabochons, or star gems! It is however quite valuable as a specimen. I've seen only one other one like this that a friend of mine had, and he made it into star gem cabochons. This specimen has a Jet black saturation with glassy luster. There's a grayish chatoyance to it which is shown in the 3rd photo. Atop this specimen is a very light Aquamarine growth that appears to be a continuation of the black beryl crystal, minus the ilmenite inclusions that cause the black color. This rare type of beryl is so scarce that it isn't even cataloged or published in any Metaphysical digests.It possesses an immense power, especially for being a chunk rather than a complete terminated crystal.
